Scale Computing Performance

Posted by laurenb @ Thu, 27 Oct 2011 14:01:20 -0400

Scale Computing’s highly parallel, scale-out architecture is designed for storage performance in demanding workloads like virtualization.

Data is striped across all nodes through a dedicated 1GbE network. This architecture delivers enhanced performance by combining the I/O performance of all disks, network interfaces, and processors in the cluster.

With more caching and network ports than normally found in storage priced for the small to medium enterprise, and an architecture designed to increase the performance as nodes are added, work gets done faster with Scale Computing.

WatchGuard Strengthens Web Security Features

WatchGuard XCS Appliances Now Gain the Ability to Scan HTTPS Traffic

SEATTLE – October 18, 2011. WatchGuard® Technologies, a global leader of business security solutions, today announced that it is enhancing its XCS line of content security appliances by adding new Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) scanning capabilities for those having WatchGuard Web Security Subscription. This new functionality enables organizations to take quick and easy steps to enforce data security policies for web traffic on HTTP, HTTPS and FTP.

“A secure surfing session via HTTPS protects user data and privacy, but threatens corporate security. Sites visited and files downloaded over HTTPS can contain malicious content, which can enter the business network. Organizations without HTTPS scanning protection are defenseless against these types of threats,” said Roula Vrsic, Product Manager for WatchGuard Technologies. “WatchGuard XCS HTTPS scanning removes this unwanted network blind spot and gives administrators full visibility into these types of threats.”

Cybercriminals are increasingly using HTTP, HTTPS or FTP as an attack vector to infect corporate networks with various payloads, such as spyware, viruses, trojans, keystroke loggers, phishing, and other malicious threats. This trend is expected to become worse as malware writers deploy creative and sophisticated techniques to bypass traditional web security filters.

In order to detect threats that propagate through HTTPS, WatchGuard XCS appliances now have the ability to perform deep content inspection of encrypted HTTPS traffic, filtering for URL and domain reputation, and scan for malware, viruses, objectionable content, and data loss violations. By expanding web protection to include HTTPS scanning, WatchGuard XCS appliances provide defense against this rapidly growing threat vector by providing comprehensive coverage for the three most common Internet protocols used in business: HTTP, HTTPS, and FTP.

WatchGuard XCS Appliances – Integrated Web, Email and Data Loss Prevention Solutions
WatchGuard Extensible Content Security (XCS) solutions deliver award-winning email and web security, as well as data loss prevention (DLP) for business networks. With seven models to choose from, WatchGuard XCS appliances meet the email and web security requirements of businesses of all sizes, including solutions to protect the world’s most demanding corporate networks.

Breaks All Time Company Record for Q3 Billings; Exceeds 15 Percent Year over Year Growth

SEATTLE – October 17, 2011. Privately-held WatchGuard® Technologies, a global leader of business security solutions, today announced that it broke all Q3 corporate billings records. In particular, the company experienced 15.6 percent year over year (YoY) Q3 billings growth, and expects that Q4 will be another record quarter due to increased global demand for its award-winning, unified threat management (UTM) security appliances.

“In today’s economy where every dollar counts, UTM solutions are consistently being recognized and deployed as the optimal way to secure networks and protect sensitive data,” said Joe Wang, CEO, WatchGuard Technologies. “WatchGuard’s continued record growth is attributed to customers who demand the ultimate value for their network security.”

Record-breaking WatchGuard Revenue Growth Seen in All Regions
For Q3 2011, WatchGuard broke all historic third quarter revenue records due to numerous countries around the world achieving significant, top-line billings growth. Growth for WatchGuard security solutions was broad-based across all regions due to increased business demand. In particular, EMEA (Europe/Middle East/Africa) was very strong, with a regional YoY growth of over 30 percent. The following territories achieved notable Q3 YoY growth:

  • Central Europe – 44 percent
  • Southern Europe – 35 percent
  • UK – 26 percent
  • Australia/New Zealand – 23 percent
  • India – 22 percent

Several factors contributed to WatchGuard’s record growth. The company notes a strong increase among upper mid-market (organizations with 1,000 to 3,000 employees), and managed security service providers (MSSP) as demonstrated by having a 66 percent increase of sales of its high performance XTM 8 series appliances.

Additionally, WatchGuard attributes growth to insatiable demand for its latest security service – Application Control. With WatchGuard Application Control, businesses now gain in-depth, granular control over Web 2.0 applications, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and hundreds more. Not only does WatchGuard Application Control protect against the next generation of threats that leverage these popular applications, now businesses can rein in how individual employees use such applications, directly from the corporate firewall.

M-Series from Scale Computing

Posted by laurenb @ Mon, 10 Oct 2011 14:00:57 -0400

The M-Series storage nodes offer a range of high-performance hardware choices to meet the increased storage demands of mid-sized enterprises with high-activity applications and virtual environments.

Redundant power supplies

M-Series storage nodes work together for full fault tolerance to survive node failure; but for environments with multiple power infrastructures, M-Series nodes provide redundant power supplies to ensure maximum availability.

10GbE Support

M-Series nodes are available in either quad 1GbE or dual 10GbE configurations. Clusters supporting 10GbE can achieve up to 10 times the storage throughput. Even clients with 1GbE network connectivity will see storage requests fulfilled faster due to the 10GbE node-to-node communication.

SAS or SATA drives

M-Series nodes are available with either 7,200 RPM SATA or 15,000 RPM SAS drives. Higher speed SAS drives deliver higher IOPS performance for challenging random I/O workloads.

Cache

M-Series nodes provide up to 12GB of read-ahead cache per node.
