Voice over IP (VoIP) is growing in popularity, both as a way to provide new communication services and to lower telephony costs. Much of VoIP’s flexibility stems from its use of IP networks, the same networks that have contributed to our reliance on both web and email as essential communication tools for both personal and business use.
However, moving voice communication from the relative safety of the telco’s networks to the unregulated Internet has its penalties. Any application running on an IP network is vulnerable to misuse and attack. Web and email administrators have already learnt this lesson, few if any web or email servers run without specialist security controls.
The level of awareness of these risks is low amongst VoIP users and system administrators than their web and email counterparts. This is a problem because if anything the risks are higher. An attack on a VoIP system will have a much more immediate impact on a business than an attack on web or email systems and the direct measurable costs are much higher.
This webcast aims to fill this knowledge gap by highlighting the range of possible attacks, describing the potential impact of those attacks and assessing the direct and indirect costs of a successful attack.
This webcast will be presented by Peter Cox, CEO of UM Labs Ltd.
